Summer is for…

What are you doing reading this?!?  We’re in the thick of summer, go out and suck up as much of it as you can!

I’ve been a terrible blogger.  I can’t seem to buckle down and write anything of substance.

Every free moment I’ve had has been spent:

– Paddling our fantastic chain of lakes!
Every spare afternoon Will and I have together we’ve spent floating around in our inflatable kayaks fishing and drinking beers.  Right in the middle of the city I can completely un-plug.  No phone, no book – nothing to do but smile at the water, trees and birds.  It’s so blissful sometimes I think I’ve been drugged.

– Sitting outside or on our porch reading funny books.  I’ve been on a Bill Bryson kick.  Laugh out loud funny – Seriously read or reread  The Thunderbolt Kid, or In A Sunburned Country, or my personal favorite A Walk In the Woods Because “What on earth would I do if four bears came into my camp? Why, I would die of course. Literally shit myself lifeless.” and “I turned to my own bunk and examined it with a kind of appalled fascination. If the mattress stains were anything to go by, a previous user had not so much suffered from incontinence as rejoiced in it. He had evidently included the pillow in his celebrations.”  – Or if you need something slightly more intellectual A Short History of Nearly Everything “There are three stages in scientific discovery. First, people deny that it is true, then they deny that it is important; finally they credit the wrong person.”

– All exercise outside!  Yes I work in a gym, doesn’t mean I have to spend more time there than necessary.  I run, bike, swim in the lakes, and do my strength on playground equipment.  I take most of my clients outside too.

– Lounging around with a nice cold beverage.  Because sometimes being lazy is what summer is for.
Because it’s that or this
at work

As one of the new Assistant Race Directors of the YWCA Women’s Triathlon I’ve certainly put in more desk hours than past summers.  It will all be worth it but it’s sucking up a fair amount of energy.

I’ll write something better soon…
In the meanwhile, what have you been doing with summer?
