I took on this goal because it was something I always dreamed of. I had no idea how difficult it would be for me.
My journey officially started in January 2016. I wanted to be able to do many amazing
things but I thought I’d focus on the simple stalder press to handstand.
I was utterly naive. I just threw myself upside-down against a wall a bunch and figured that would do it. I had no idea what was actually involved or how far away I was. Like a toddler declaring that she would be an astronaut tomorrow. Then preparing by eating freeze dried food in her snow suit.
So far away… let’s review…
Down the Rabbit Hole (May 29th 2016) I announced that I had been banging my head against the wall and that it was time to learn more.
Curiouser and Curiouser (June 19th 2016) I stepped back from the handstand goal and focused on flexibility, particularly a pike.
Progress Report! (January 15th 2017) I had made progress! It was minute, but I was satisfied. This is also when I started training with the amazing acro Katie.
Tortoise raging is my life – slow progress. (April 30th 2017) I was starting to get discouraged but distracting myself with different yet similar activities.
Fish Ballet (July 23 2017) While continuing to work on my handstand with amazing acro Katie, I also continued to distract myself. This time with a fundamental ballet class, which I LOVED. But money and time being tight I discontinued in December.
So here we are, two years later. March 2018.
I feel both closer and still infinitely far away from my handstand goal.
So this summer I’ll be enrolling in Garage Gym Girl’s 12 week online handstand coaching program.
In the meanwhile I’m writing myself training routines and and actually (mostly) sticking to them.
I hope this will make me super prepared for getting the most out of the online coaching.
